About Professor Len Funk

Len Funk specialises in arthroscopic (keyhole) and minimally invasive surgery of the shoulder and elbow, as well as general upper limb surgery and trauma. His shoulder and elbow surgery uses advanced modern techniques for the management of shoulder dislocations, frozen shoulder,arthritis, stiff elbows and sports injuries of the shoulder.

Len routinely treats elite and professional athletes, with a particular interest in shoulder and elbow injuries in Rugby and contact sports.

Len holds Honorary Professorships at Salford University and University of Bolton. In addition to his surgical qualifications, he is a Fellow of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine UK and holds a BSc in Sports Physiology and an MSc in Orthopaedic Engineering.

He is involved in developing and running Postgraduate degrees for surgeons, therapists and sports clinicians in Orthopaedics. Len lectures nationally and internationally on Shoulder Surgery, Sports Injuries and Medical Informatics. He is published widely in medical journals and a member of many international and national professional organisations. Len performs office shoulder ultrasound, thus providing immediate scans and outcome assessments to all patients at the first clinic appointment, offering a one stop diagnostic service for shoulder injuries and diseases. He also trains other clinicians on shoulder ultrasound on regular courses and lectures internationally. Len strongly believes in offering complete multidisciplinary shoulder and upper limb treatment, through close links with referring therapists and clinicians, ensuring that their patients get the highest standard of care.Specialist Areas
