About Humera Sultan

Humera is a Consultant in Public Health at Birmingham City Council (BCC). She is also a National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Doctoral Local Authority Research Fellow. She led on the Naturally Birmingham project – an ambitious plan to strategically place nature at the centre of the Council’s decision making –which resulted in the city's 25 year City of Nature Plan. She has also led the Physical Activity agenda for Birmingham Public Health. Humera holds a Master’s degree in Public Health and has acted as a specialist Consultant at three different Local Authorities in the UK. Currently, Humera holds an  NIHR fellowship which is allowing her to undertake her PhD on investment in parks. This also sees her spend one day week at BCC focussing on physical activity. Humera is a keen athlete doing cycling sportive, triathlons and a range of running events. She is also proud to hold a community role in the city, where she is the Chair of Friends of Swanshurst Park – a neighbourhood park in south Birmingham where she volunteers regularly with a small group of committed residents. Above all, she is a mum to her wonderful son, Esa, aged 7.
