Invitation to Online Event : Beyond Allyship, A Conversation for All

In support of the wider work currently being carried out on the CSP’s equity, diversity and belonging strategy, we are planning to hold an online discussion event for CSP members called Beyond Allyship – A Conversation for All, which will be hosted by the Chair of Council Alex MacKenzie with the following guest panellists:

·         Stephanie Nixon – an associate professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Toronto in Canada.

As a white woman, Stephanie has learned about equity and justice from black, indigenous and other racialised leaders. Based on these learnings, she developed the Coin Model of Privilege and Critical Allyship as a way to translate core ideas about anti-oppression and anti-racism to people in positions of unearned advantage.

·         Mary Makinde – the founder of Transforming Mindsets, a senior lecturer in forensic investigation and the strategic lead at a UK university.

Mary delivers training to enhance our understanding of unconscious bias, race, identity and difference, allyship, and growth mindset, to develop relationships and to make transformational changes.

At the event, the panellists will share a number of alternative views of allyship to aid members’ personal development in this area. There will be an opportunity for the panel to answer questions and reflect on comments posed by those attending.

The event is taking place online on Wednesday 7th July 2021 between 5-6.30pm and we wanted to give you the opportunity to circulate this invitation to your networks and to give those who would have usually attended ARC to book on for the event first.

Registration is via the Eventbrite page here.

We look forward to welcoming you on the day,

On behalf of the Governance Team
